Spring Cleaning and Fire Protection
6/3/2022 (Permalink)
Keeping up on cleaning can help prevent fire damage.
Spring is a great time to get your home in order. While you’re in the process of spring cleaning, you can also focus on small things that can help you reduce accidental fires in your home. Fires can occur when you least expect them, but you can prevent them by following some simple guidelines as you do your spring cleaning:
Spring Cleaning Fire Safety Checklist:
- Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms - Replace smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarm batteries and check them once a month by pressing the test button. Gently clean the alarms and make sure you are following the manufacturer's instructions.
- Kitchen - Keep countertops and stovetops free from grease and clutter. Excess grease and or dirt on the drip pan or stovetop can easily catch fire. Make sure you clean oil and food spills immediately after they happen and wait until the stove is cool and wipe away the oil or food spills. Keep items that could catch fire, such as oven mitts, towels, or wooden utensils away from your stovetop.
- Electrical Cords - Inspect the electrical cords in your home and replace worn or tattered cords. Don’t run cords under carpets or across doorways. This will prevent them from being damaged. Use extension cords only temporarily and plug-in major appliances directly into wall sockets.
- Clothes Dryers - Excess lint in the dryer is the number one cause of clothes dryer fires. Clean the lint that has been collected around the drum before or after each load of laundry. Always use a lint filter and clean it regularly. Move combustible items such as boxes, clothing, and boxes away from your dryer to a safer area.
- Grilling - Clean the grease or fat build-up after every use. Doing this not only reduces the risk of fire but also helps the food cook better. Check the propane tank, hose, and all connection points for leaks. If you smell gas when the grill is on turn off the tank and the burners immediately. If you have a charcoal grill, use only charcoal starter fluid.
- Escape Plan - You should protect your family with an escape plan in the event of a fire or other disaster. The plan should include a map of each home level with two escape routes in each room. Discuss and practice the plan with everyone in your household, including children, and pets in the plan.
While spring cleaning helps you get your house in order, it's also wise to concentrate on jobs that enhance your home's security. Fires can happen when you least anticipate them, but you can help prevent them by following these safety tips to your spring cleaning routine.

Stay Safe During Storms in Westminster, CO

Stay safe during storms in Westminster, CO.
SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada understands that floods are a common natural disaster in the U.S. Flooding can happen near major bodies of water, but also inland. They can come with no warning which is known as a “flash flood.” They can also develop quickly or slowly near your Westminster home or office.
Floods:
- Come from rain, snow, hurricanes, tornadoes, and storm surges
- Can cause power or water outages
- Damage buildings
- Make roads impassable
- Sweep away people, animals, or cars
- Overflows of dams or other water systems
- Create landslides
If you are in a flood in Westminster:
- If you have a warning, get to a safe place
- Don’t drive around barricades
- Don’t walk, swim, or drive through flood waters.
- Six inches of moving water can knock a person down. Twelve inches of moving water can sweep a car away
- Stay off bridges over fast-moving water. The water can wash bridges away
- If your car is trapped in quickly moving water, stay inside. If the water rises inside the vehicle, climb onto the roof
- If you are trapped in a building, go to the highest level. Do NOT climb into a closed attic. Floodwater can trap you. Go to the roof only if there is no other escape

Fire Alarm Placement in Adams County, Colorado
5/5/2022 (Permalink)
Fire alarms can protect your home and family in Adams County, CO
Smoke alarms are a useful tool to protect your belongings and loved ones safe by alerting you in case of a fire.
The National Fire Protection Agency recommends that fire alarms are installed on every floor of a home or business and inside and outside of every bedroom or place where someone sleeps. Alarms should be mounted in the middle of a ceiling, but if you are unable to mount your alarm on the ceiling, they can be mounted on the wall. If wall mounted, place the alarm within 12 inches of the ceiling and at least three feet from corners.
Keep smoke alarms away from:
- Fans and air ducts, they can blow smoke away and cause the alarm to not respond appropriately
- The shower or kitchen stove, the heat/steam/smoke from these can cause a smoke alarm to sound when there is not actually any danger.
If your smoke alarm sounds, have a safety plan in place so that your family knows what to do. Before going through any closed doors, check to see if the doorknob is hot, and when moving through an area with a fire, crawl rather than walk to avoid smoke inhalation. If you are able to safely exit an area without help, do so before calling 911.
If you or someone you know is in need of assistance with smoke damage or help with cleaning after a fire, call SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada at (303)452-9900.

Smoke and Soot
5/5/2022 (Permalink)
Avoid further damage to your home by dealing with smoke and soot appropriately in Adams County, CO
Smoke and soot are very invasive and can penetrate various cavities within your home, causing hidden damage and odor. Our smoke damage expertise and experience allows us to inspect and accurately assess the extent of the damage to develop a comprehensive plan of action.
Some facts on the movement of smoke and soot around the home:
- Hot smoke migrates to cooler areas and upper levels of a structure.
- Smoke flows around plumbing systems, seeping through the holes used by pipes to go from floor to floor.
- The type of smoke may greatly affect the restoration process.
There are two different types of smoke – wet and dry - which leave different types of soot residue after a fire. Before we begin restoration, SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada will test the soot to determine which type of smoke damage occurred. The cleaning procedures will then be based on the information identified during pretesting.

“We had a Soap tray fall off the shower tile in the kids bathroom. Woke up to water all over, and it had leaked into the garage. We called SERVPRO and they sent our Enrique, Houston and Brian. Not only did they show up within a few hours, they set up Dehumidifiers and Fans, cleaned up the excess water and because their response was SO fast, they ended up saving us THOUSANDS of dollars in damage. (seriously, all we need to do is put the soap tray back up). Houston and Brian were SO nice, so polite and extremely professional. They went WAY above and beyond my expectations in making sure there was no more water/moisture or any mold. They even crawled into the rafters of my garage multiple times with a moisture detector!
They did this while also dealing with the Marshall Fire damage in Superior Colorado (we live in Parker). PLEASE call these gentlemen if you need ANY sort of disaster recovery! I will absolutely call them if I (hopefully not) need any more of their services. Thank you Houston for the great communication as well!

Most Common Fires and Ways to Prevent Them in Arvada, CO
4/16/2022 (Permalink)
Practice safety in your home or business to avoid fire and smoke damage.
House or business fires endanger those around them and can cause thousands of dollars in fire and smoke damage. Fortunately, the most common causes of fires can be avoided by simple measures to avoid damaging your home.
Cooking
The majority of fires in the kitchen happen when food is left unattended. Don’t walk away from food especially when using grease or oil. Also, make sure that any portable appliances like toasters are cooled down before they get stowed away.
Heating
Move any curtains or other combustible fabrics away from portable space heaters and never leave the house with them running.
Electrical
Have a professional electrician come over to check wiring in your home and make sure that it isn’t outdated or damaged in any way. Also refrain from performing electrical repairs unless you have extensive experience.
Smoking
If you smoke, it’s a good idea to only do so outside and to make sure that a cigarette butt is fully put out before it gets thrown away so that it doesn’t spark a fire inside your house.
Candles
Remember to always put candles out before you leave home. Make sure to also keep candles out of reach of children or pets who may knock them over and away from flammable materials.
If your house is damaged by a fire, SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada can help with mitigation and dealing with any odor or smoke clean up. Reach out if you need assistance with fire damage at (303)452-9900.

Tips to Put Out Fires in the Kitchen Safely in Louisville
8/16/2021 (Permalink)
Fire Safety in the Kitchen is critical.
Fires that begin in the kitchen account for over half of home fires. Some kitchen fires are small enough that you may be able to put them out with a fire extinguisher safely. By being proactive, you can help save yourself and others from fire and smoke injuries in your Louisville home.
But remember that fire is fast. If you cannot contain a fire immediately, leave and bring everyone with you. Call 911 from outside the home.
SERVPRO® of Broomfield/Arvada offers these tips for handling a small cooking fire:
- If the fire is on the stove top or in a pot, put a lid on the fire to smother the flames. Turn off the burner
- If a cloth on the stove top is on fire, put a lid on the fire to smother the flames. Turn off any burners
- Do not use water on a gas fire or a grease fire. Pot lids will smother a fire. You can also use (a lot of) baking soda. Pour a box of baking soda on the fire
- If the fire is in the oven, turn off the heat. Close the oven door.
IMPORTANT:
Never leave firefighting to chance in Louisville. SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada knows that objects can be replaced. People and pets cannot.

Rental Property and Mold Damage in Louisville, CO
6/3/2021 (Permalink)
If treated properly, mold does not have to destroy your Louisville home, office, or commercial building.
SERVPRO® of Broomfield/Arvada understands mold and we want to educate our community about the best ways to prevent and treat your Louisville property to avoid costly repairs.
Mold:
- grows from mold spores (spores are too small to see unaided, can survive harsh environments for many years)
- needs to have only above-freezing temperatures, protein, such as in animal dander, skin cells, wood, plaster, carpet, moisture (high humidity is enough)
If you have a small amount of mold on a dish, you can clean it. If you, however, have a large amount of mold, you will need licensed mold remediation from an industry professional. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines a “large amount” as 10 square feet or more.
If you suspect your apartment or office building might have mold, you need to have a certified mold inspector out to examine the area. SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada cannot identify what kind of mold you have, but we are licensed in mold remediation and we can repair the damage caused by mold.
Remember, whatever the disaster, SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada is #HeretoHelp.

Remediating Mold in Federal Heights
5/13/2021 (Permalink)
Don’t let mold take over your home or business. SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada can help.
Why should you choose to use SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada? Because we understand it doesn’t take but a tiny bit of moisture to cause mold growth in the drywall in your Federal Heights home or office. You may not be able to see the mold growing but it is causing damage and the sooner you get rid of it, the better.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ruled that only licensed professionals can clean more than 10 square feet of mold. The EPA cannot know how you take care of your home or business, but you will need an inspection if you want to sell.
SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada is licensed in mold remediation.
Mold remediation means getting rid of the mold spores that become mold as well as fixing the root cause of the dampness.
Mold:
- can start growing on a damp surface within 24 hours
- can destroy the materials it grows on
- can spread and destroy adjacent materials
- grows from tiny spores that travel through the air
SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada can:
- remove drywall
- disinfect certain surfaces
- find the source of moisture
- stop the moisture problem

Mold Removal vs. Mold Remediation in Westminster
5/13/2021 (Permalink)
Understanding the difference in mold removal and mold remediation is important.
SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada shares the differences in mold removal and mold remediation. We should understand that removing mold is nearly impossible because microscopic mold spores exist almost everywhere naturally. However, if you find yourself in a mold situation in Westminster, call SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada and we will remediate the damage.
Mold, once exposed to moisture, can begin growing into colonies within 48 hours. Moisture sources that help mold grow include windows, air conditioning/heating units, leaks, pets, and even clothing materials. SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada has these tips to offer about mold remediation:
- Wear protective gear such as gloves, a mask, and eye protection
- Protect yourself by ventilating the area where mold is present
- Identify materials that have been exposed to moisture for over 24-48 hours
- Throw out whatever mold has destroyed, if you can do so safely
- Keep humidity at 40% or higher
- Ultimately, let SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada in the Westminster area remediate the mold safely and get your home or business back to normal. While we cannot prevent mold from happening, we can remediate the damage making it “Like it never even happened.”
An Important Note:
By law, only licensed professionals can remediate large areas. A “large area” is 10 square feet or more per the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA.)
SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada is independently owned and operated.
Have an Evacuation Plan and a Shelter Plan in Place in Northglenn
5/12/2021 (Permalink)
Look over your evacuation plan before a big storm hits in Northglenn.
It is very important to have an evacuation plan in place before a big storm hits. The weather is unpredictable and unexpected damages can occur due to that. These damages can force homeowners and residents in Northglenn to evacuate to a safer area. If a resident does not have anywhere else to go, another option is a disaster shelter. The American Red Cross has a disaster shelter locator on their website. When preparing for a storm, one should always check and see if there are any disaster shelters around the area. Everyone is welcome at a disaster shelter. There are no qualifications to be met. Service animals are also welcome! What a great resource!
Once the residential home is safe to re-enter, carefully evaluate any damage the home may have and take note of it. SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada has a team of trained professionals that are ready to help when property damage occurs!
Here are some safety tips for the residents of Northglenn who are getting ready to evaluate residential home damage:
- Stay away from electrical lines and wires, especially if there is water damage nearby
- Examine the breaker box for any breakers that might have tripped, but DO NOT turn them on yourself – call an electrician to do this safely in case of wire damage
- Be extremely cautious if cleaning products have spilled – most are flammable so avoid using matches or candles
Again, we are here to help. Do not hesitate to call us if your home needs to be restored after a storm or water damage occurs.

Cleaning Smoke and Soot Damage in McKay Landing
4/29/2021 (Permalink)
Let SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada make your fire damage in McKay Landing “Like it never even happened.”
Smoke is a mixture of gases and small particles. The small particles are also called ash, and they include soot. Soot is the collection of particles left from incomplete burning of products that contain carbon. These products include wood and coal. Smoke and soot do not destroy materials the way fire does. They leave behind greasy films and have an unpleasant odor. SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada can clean up damage from smoke and soot in your McKay Landing home.
Smoke moves from warmer areas to cooler areas. You will find smoke and soot damage on the ceiling above where the fire started, but you will also find damage in other places. Our SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada team looks for damage in/on:
- Closed-off spaces: Smoke and soot settle in cooler areas, including dresser drawers, closed closets, and wall cavities
- Drapes and blinds. The drapes and blinds are cooler than other parts of the house. During a fire, the areas behind the drapes and blinds are cooler than the rest of the room. Remember that smoke travels to the cooler areas, leaving behind smoke and soot.
- Outside walls and windows: Even if the fire was in the center of the room, smoke travels to the cooler areas
- Air ducts: smoke and soot travel throughout the house
SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada investigates these areas to get a good idea of what kind of damage is in your McKay Landing property.

Water Damage! Now What?!
4/15/2021 (Permalink)
Water Damage is a nightmare, we can help!
If you've ever experienced water damage you know that there isn't much you can do to prepare you for the shock!
In the aftermath of a flood or other water damage, you usually end up staring at puddles and damaged flooring wondering, "Now what?"
After the initial shock of the flooding, it's time to assess and do water damage repair— quickly! Wet materials start developing very serious problems like mold after around 24 hours. You don't have time to wait.
When you call SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada, we are immediately there to help you! Our customer care center is fully staffed 24 hours a day and ready to dispatch our Professionals directly to you! When you are dealing with water damage, immediate action is crucial. A delay of just a few hours can greatly increase the severity of the damage.
What you can expect
When our Professionals arrive they will identify and stop the water source and identify the type of water. The type of water contamination will affect the specific restoration processes used to restore your property.
Believe it or not, there are three types of water.
- White - water from rain, condensation, leaky pipes, etc.
- Gray - slightly dirty water from dishwashers, washing machines, clean toilets, etc.
- Black - comes from sewage or serious flooding from nearby rivers, etc. This water contains waste, bacteria, and other serious contaminants. Black water can cause very serious health effects, and you shouldn't try to clean it up yourself.
After the water has been stopped and identified, our highly trained technicians will begin the water removal process. Depending on the amount of water, they may use powerful submersible pumps in addition to industrial strength, wet/dry vacuums. This step helps to reduce drying time and helps to prevent mold and secondary water damage.
Next, our Professionals will survey the extent of the water damage and inspect the area to discover the full extent of the water damage. They will also look for safety concerns and explain them to you.
After the water removal step, your floors and walls may look dry at first glance, but they are still wet to the touch. Most building materials, like drywall and wood, are porous and will retain significant water. The retained water will cause these materials to warp, swell, or break down and can also cause mold damage.
Next, our professionals will use specialized equipment, including industrial air movers and dehumidifiers, to remove water retained by building materials and other hard-to-access moisture. They’ll carefully monitor the progress using moisture meters until the materials are dry.
After the moisture has all been removed, your property’s walls, floors, and other surfaces will likely need professional cleaning. Our Professionals will clean your furniture, upholstery, clothing, and other restorable personal items, damaged by the water.
The final step is restoration. Restoration is the process of restoring your home or business to its pre-water damage condition. Restoration may involve minor repairs, such as replacing drywall and installing new carpet or may entail major repairs, such as the reconstruction of various areas of your property.
Water damage can be catastrophic in your home, especially if it’s been going on for a while. The good news is that SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada is here to help! The sooner you take action, and the sooner you call our Professionals the less disastrous the whole situation will be!

Should you ever have a fire emergency, we can help!
No one can predict when an emergency will arise.
More than one third of fire home deaths occur as a result of fires where no alarms are present. Most of these smoke alarm failures are usually the result of missing, disconnected or dead batteries.
Here are some tips to keep in mind that could prevent a fire disaster from occurring in your home:
-National Fire Protection Association recommends smoke alarms be installed in every bedroom, outside all sleeping quarters and on every level of the house
-Test smoke alarms at least once a month using the test button
-Replace batteries in all smoke alarms at least once a year
-Replace all smoke alarms when they are 10 years old.
Emergencies can happen 24/7/365. Keep you and your loved ones safe all year round.

Does Your Broomfield Home Have a Mold Problem?
4/15/2021 (Permalink)
Even in as dry of a climate as Broomfield, mold can spread through a home in as little as 48 hours.
Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:
- Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
- Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
- Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
- Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
- Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
- Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.
If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.

Review: "Chris was very clear and responsive in setting up the job. He referred us to their partner, SERVPRO to GC the job . Specialty did a really good job of clearing the house of asbestos following a water leak. They were punctual and thorough. They were a bit haphazard about the removal of our fixtures... Screws and plumbing bits weren't kept with the fixtures. They left some mess... Tape and staples still in the wall, our screen left open, etc."
Water Damage Tips
8/27/2020 (Permalink)
You can count on SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada to take care of any and all water losses.
Water damage can happen to your Arvada home or business in many different ways.
In this blog, we will outline some of the most common sources of water damage. It's very likely that you have had water damage at one point or another, or may know someone who has.
If you think about water damaging your home, you might imagine the cause to be from a severe storm. The unfortunate reality is that most water damages are caused when ordinary household appliances fail. It's important to know the areas around your home that pose a threat for damage, and what to do after it happens.
Washing Machines
Washing machine leaks are among the most common causes of flood damage in a home and can result in significant damage not only in the laundry room but also in adjacent rooms and areas. Some laundry rooms are located on the second floor of homes thus multi-level damage can occur. Remember to replace rubber and plastic hoses with reinforced steel braided hoses. Check connections periodically to make sure they are secure and replace the hoses every five years.
Sewer and Drain Backups
Sewer water has the potential to cause health issues, not to mention a disgusting smell. This can bring serious issues to the home or business owner. Water that backs up from a sewer is called "blackwater” and can contain all types of harmful contaminants. A professional cleanup company like SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada is highly recommended to help in the event that this happens. Call us! We will respond immediately to make your home safe again.
Bathroom Leaks
Bathroom water leaks cause significant damage to a home. This is especially true if the bathroom is located upstairs. The main culprit is usually a supply line to the shower or toilet. We can't see the copper pipes that carry the water inside the walls, but we can see and inspect the supply line to the toilet. It's a good idea to replace the older line with a stronger braided one. These steel braided hoses are less likely to fail and are a proactive way to lessen the chance of having a leak.
Frozen Pipes
Colorado has beautiful winters and thankfully, we can enjoy fun outdoor winter activities. We can also experience extremely low temperatures. When outdoor temperatures drop and stay low and cold for even a few days, homes and businesses are likely to suffer from frozen pipes that then burst because the water inside those pipes freezes. As freezing water expands, it causes the pressure inside the pipes to increase which very likely can lead to bursting pipes. There are a few ways to help prevent this from happening:
Be sure to blow out your sprinkler system and detach garden hoses from exterior spigots. Insulate pipes, especially those close to outside walls, attics, and crawl spaces where the chance of freezing is greatest. Seal air leaks surrounding pipes and keep garage doors closed if there are water supply lines in the garage.
The Refrigerator
The copper pipe that brings in water to the ice maker might have a bad or loose connection, or it could be pinched. Like the other appliances in our homes, the fridge has a water supply line with continuous pressure. If that line becomes loose or broken in any way, water will spill out until the source is turned off. It's a great idea to familiarize yourself with where to shut the water off!
Sump Pump Failure
If you have a basement, you understand the importance of a sump pump. Without one, water can seep into your basement and cause lots of damage. One of the most common causes of a flooded basement is a sump pump that stops working. This could be that the pump is old and mechanically broken, but most likely, it's due to a power supply loss. When storms roll through, we can at times lose power to our homes. That's why it's so important to have a battery backup in place in the event this happens to you.

Once The Fire Truck Leaves
8/27/2020 (Permalink)
Fire and smoke damage in Broomfield home after massive house fire.
Once the fire trucks leave, the first step to clean up and restoration is the board-up. This is part of the emergency services provided by SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada. Firefighters will often break windows and cut holes in the roof to help air out the property from all the smoke and heat. The board-up is essential to secure your property from theft and liability.
How The Smoke Travels
Even small-scale fires in a home can result in large amounts of fire and smoke damage. If your HVAC (your heater or A/C) system is on, then the smoke will most likely enter through the return vents and be spread throughout the duct system. This will not only carry the smoke and the smoke damage throughout the house but also cause smoke damage to your ducts.
Your ducts might have dust throughout the system, which can absorb the smoke, meaning every time your air conditioner or heater turns on, you'll smell the residual smoke for weeks and months after the fire.
You won't need to worry about that if you call service professionals at SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada. We will clean the furnace and HVAC system thoroughly to remove the smoke from your ducts.
Get The Water Out As Soon As Possible
SERVPRO of Broomfield/Arvada responded to a fire damage call that received water damage that nearly equaled the amount of damage from the fire. Sometimes fires are put out by extinguishers, and water is not a factor in the cleanup process. When there is water damage in tandem with fire loss, the water's extraction must happen as quickly as possible.
The water removal process begins almost immediately. It is essential to remove the majority of the water as soon as possible to avoid mold growth. Our technicians use state of the art moisture detection equipment and years of experience to find the water trapped behind the walls and under floors. We then use dehumidifiers and air movers to remove the remaining water and complete the drying process.
Saving Your Belongings
Once our SERVPRO professionals arrive at your Broomfield-area home or business, always in properly marked SERVPRO vehicles and uniforms, we can get to work on mitigation techniques designed to preserve your property and its contents. Processes like pack-outs remove the at-risk furniture and contents from your property to our secured warehouse.
Pack-outs provide a safe place for their storage and specialized attention until it is time to return them to your fully restored home. Separating the two gives us a better opportunity to clean and restore the structure. During their time with our Contents Department, individual items get cleaned, disinfected, and deodorized to be ready for their return to the property.
Our crews hand wrap and protect every large item, such as furniture, tables, chairs, and artwork. Smaller items are sorted and put into boxes. For inventory purposes, we photograph and label each item packed out and removed, and organize these pictures and labels in our proprietary software to keep track of your items during the entire process accurately.

These spores are always floating in the atmosphere waiting for the opportunity for the right conditions to occur to allow them to grow. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), “ Molds have been on the Earth for millions of years and will grow where there is moisture present, such as around leaks in roofs and windows, and when there has been a flood. 1/30/2020 (Permalink)
Specialized Smoke Detectors Saves Lives in Louisville.
Did you know that there are makers of specialized smoke alarms and alert devices for people who are deaf or hard of hearing? This is important because people of Louisville who are deaf or hard of hearing may not benefit from a standard smoke alarm. SERVPRO® of Broomfield/NW Adams County offers these product descriptions from the National Fire Prevention Association for selecting alert devices and specialized smoke alarms:
- Strobe lights flash when the smoke alarm sounds. The lights warn people of a possible fire.
- When people who are deaf are asleep, a pillow or bed shaker can wake them so they can escape. The shaker is activated by the sound of a smoke alarm.
- When people who are hard of hearing are asleep, an alert device that uses a loud, mixed, low-pitched sound can wake them. They may find a pillow or bed shaker helpful. These devices are triggered by the sound of the smoke alarm.
Smoke alarm accessories such as pillow or bed shakers, transmitters, and receivers can be purchased at lifetonesafety.com, safeawake.com, and silentcall.com. Prevent Frozen Pipes in Westminster

Prevent Frozen Pipes in Westminster
Westminster knows freezing weather. SERVPRO® of Broomfield/NW Adams County also knows the joys of a freeze are better outdoors than inside. When frozen pipes burst, they bring too much of the great outdoors to the inside. The Federal Emergency Management Association reports that every year, burst pipes damage at least one room in a quarter of a million homes or offices. SERVPRO of Broomfield/NW Adams County hopes these tips will prevent water damage from burst pipes.
Preparing the Pipes in Westminster:
• Know the risks: subfreezing weather, exposed pipes, uninsulated areas
• A cold snap is a day or more of temperatures that don't rise above 20 degrees F
• Wrap exposed pipes with several inches of pipe insulation
• Invest in insulation for the areas that have pipes – it will save you money
• Don't worry about wasting energy by keeping the thermostat up – keep the indoor temperature at least 55 degrees F, even if there will be no one at home or at the office
• During a cold snap, cold water dripping through a tap will prevent the pipes from freezing
• There's no need to water the grounds anyway, so remove hoses from the taps
• Keep cabinet doors open in kitchens and bathrooms so the warm air will circulate around the pipes
SERVPRO of Broomfield/NW Adams County will remediate storm damage or water damage “Like it never even happened”, but strongly believes in the power of prevention.

Colder Weather means Freezing Pipes in Northglenn
10/7/2019 (Permalink)
Call SERVPRO® of Broomfield/NW Adams County to clean up standing water.
The fall weather is finally approaching which means winter will be here before we know it. Unfortunately for the residents of Northglenn, that means pipes will freeze which can lead to pipes bursting and flooding parts of the residential area. A flooded kitchen is not very fun to deal with, but luckily the trained professionals at SERVPRO® of Broomfield/NW Adams County know just what to do, and we get it done quickly.
Here are some common guidelines to follow when preventing and thawing frozen pipes:
- Remove and drain all outside hoses and close the inside valves
- Add additional insulation to basements, crawl spaces and attics
- Keep garage doors closed if there are water supply lines located there
- During very cold Northglenn nights, keep kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors open to allow warm air to flow around the pipes
- Allow the pipes to have a small drip throughout the night as well
If your pipes are frozen, try the following:
- Carefully run a small flow of water through the faucet as this will allow the ice to melt while the water is running
- Apply heat to the frozen section of the pipe using an electric heating pad, a hair dryer, or towels wet with hot water
- If the pipe ends up bursting, call SERVPRO® of Broomfield/NW Adams County to help clean up and restore the affected area(s)
